Your Accessible Flight
Customer: Globe4all
Timeframe: january - march 2024
Globe4all is organizing travel and leisure experiences for individuals with disabilities. Their mission is to highlight all aspects of accessible travel and help travelers with special needs find exciting and inclusive adventures at their destination.
The client approached me with a task: to design a mobile application for iOS and Android (mobile devices only, portrait orientation), including onboarding screens, with a unique value proposition:
The app informs users whether their wheelchair, mobility scooter, or electric wheelchair attachment complies with airline regulations for transporting such devices.
If the device is approved, users can insure it against damage or loss during the flight. In case of an incident, users can receive an insurance payout and rent a new wheelchair, scooter, or other assistive device at their destination for the duration of their trip.
Competitor analysis
You can find the rules for transporting wheelchairs, scooters, and other assistive devices either on the airline's website or by calling the airline directly. There is no app available for checking personal wheelchair compatibility.
No apps were found for selecting and purchasing insurance, but services for purchasing such insurance do exist. Therefore, we can incorporate a service in our app for selecting a suitable insurance company.
Two apps from Scootaround company for renting assistive devices were found, but they only operate within North America.
Interviews
In-depth interviews were conducted with representatives from various target audiences - those who travel frequently or infrequently, those who travel alone or with assistants, those who fly for leisure or business trips, as well as athletes in active wheelchairs and parents of children with limited mobility.
After conducting the interviews, regardless of the respondents' personal backgrounds, they all shared similar pain points and consequently, the same goals for using the application.
Therefore, for scenario development, I chose the Jobs To Be Done format.
